Standards check
How my standards check went?

Preparation is the key to your success, fail to prepare, prepare to fail!

I prepared, approx 3 weeks in advance, i did not fail, i gained a GRADE A so the preparation was well worth it

So find a suitable pupil, do have 2 or 3 back up pupils in mind (as in my case the main pupil cancelled within 3 days) review their lesson plans, what do you feel is weak, where could they improve in their learning? Do not make it complicated, you want the learning to be valued, also you need the pupil to be involved, so make sure they have valid input into the lesson!

What would i have done different? maybe less instruction (but then you have to sometimes think that the instruction is required? so its judgement from the instructor point of view) Also maybe i would have highlighted my intervention of using the steering wheel, asking them how they felt and what could the dangers have been had i not interfered? apart from this, there is not a lot i would have changed!

One thing i would highlight is the risk management section, what you need to do before they set off is state that you have dual controls and will use them if required, also re the steering, if you need to interfere to keep the vehicle and other road users safe, then do so, but state this at the beginning of the lesson. If you do actually use pedals or the steering, make sure you pull up straight away and explain why you used them! Ask the pupil to go through the dangers of what could have happened if you did not interfere with the drive?
During the lesson, do make sure you do several stops to ask how they are feeling, how they feel the last section of the drive went, would they like to try some more of these before moving on to the next section? remember it is their lesson and it is to suit their learning needs! (As it has been proved, people can not concentrate for more than 20 mins, so pull ups are essential to keep the pupil on track) also they can have a good fresh analysis of the last section of the drive.
Do not be afraid of changing the lesson, if there are faults, highlight them straight away, do not let them fester (as you are likely to forget them too)

I Hope this helps.
